US Consumer Product Safety Commision

We met with a Federal Agent today to go over the day's events of April 29, 2009. We sat and talked for about 1 1/2 hours to go over all the details. We then went into the playroom to do a reenactment with a stuffed doll. The Senior Investigator for our area said that he has seen this before and with 38 years on the job he has seen so much worse. I still feel like we are such a small voice, but the agent assured me that it's consumers like us who usually can get the laws changed. So, we will continue to work with the manufacturer(s) and we are now pursuing retailers to have them display safety warnings.

We made a trip to Home Depot about 2 months ago so we could look at some color samples for the cordless blinds that we were ordering. We waited and waited for some help and when the employee got back to the blinds department he asked us why we were ordering directly from the manufacturer. When we told him we were getting replacement blinds because of the accident, it was very obvious that he either didn't care or wasn't interested in listening to our story. We asked him about the safety warnings and why there weren't signs out on the shelves with these products. He quickly told us that it was the manufacturers responsibility to notify consumers of safety issues and it is always listed inside the packaging. He then abruptly walked away from us. From that experience we decided that it was not only important that the blind manufacturers were being held accountable for these warning labels but that the retailers that sell these products also need to be more consumer friendly. Isn't it their stores that we buy these items from? Why shouldn't they be forced to display warning information for the consumers who keep these stores in business?

I am so happy that our little Aden is ok, but what about all those other children and parents and brothers and sisters? Who is fighting for them? Just my thoughts.
